Mini-Maglite Flashlight Trick (xenon lamp)
Note: The new LED Mag-LITEs' do not heat up, so the trick does not work for them.
We have all seen the Mag-LITE trick used by paranormal groups. I am going to explain how it works. It is simply a short circuit just like bad wiring. They adjust the lamp reflector housing #10 until the xenon lamp turns on! The lamp starts to heat up and expands the pressure switch #8 in the lamp reflector housing #10 Light goes off!
You can see the lamp dim just before it goes out.
This is a good time to ask that paranormal question.
As soon as the lamp is, off! The reflector housing #10 starts to cool down contracting the pressure switch #8 until it reconnects the circuit. Light goes on!
It is a very consistent on, off!
Now ask a question and wait for the light to turn itself either off, or on!
Anyone can do it...
It does not matter how many Mag-LITEs’ you use if the light is off, as it cools down it will reconnect turning back on, and if the light is on it will heat up until disconnecting.
The Mag-LITE is operating like a heat engine. Expansion and contraction is what is driving the light to turn on, and off according to the laws of thermodynamics.
